HMS Enterprise was launched on 27 April 2002, she was officially named by the ship’s sponsor, Mrs S Forbes, at her Naming Ceremony on 2 May 2002.

HMS Enterprise has been in build in Appledore in North Devon since May 2000. She is the second ship of her type to be built on behalf of Vosper Thorneycroft by Appledore Shipbuilders Ltd and follows her sister ship HMS Echo which is shortly to enter service. These ships have been ordered under an innovative contractor logistic support scheme which means VT will be responsible for the ship's upkeep throughout its intended 25 year life.

HMS Enterprise represents a major improvement to the Royal Navy's surveying and general environmental data gathering ability. HMS Enterprise will be able to collect information on all aspects of the environment (from the seabed to the upper atmosphere), process and send the information to Warfare Commanders in real time. This information will allow them to use their weapon systems to the best advantage and will therefore enhance war-fighting ability.

Ship’s Motto is ‘Spes aspera levat’: Hope lightens difficulties.

HMS Enterprise is affiliated to Tiverton town.

I keep thinking it'd be fun to see a Star Trek alternate universe with the HMS Enterprise, where Starfleet is based of British naval traditions rather than American...

I don't think I'm alone when I say I'd like to see more and more planets fall under the ruthless domination of our solar system.

Well on my oft-mentioned website most of the ships there are named for British counterparts e.g. USS Albion, USS Sheffield, USS Montrose.....

Makes a change from naming everything after US ships...
